Independent Music Sampler #144

Aldora Britain Records proudly presents Upstart, an eclectic collection of 25 independent and underground artists from all around the globe. This collection's theme is eclectic. The only common denominator is each artist's independent or underground credentials. Why should genre ever be a boundary?

We welcome back several friends this week. This includes the melancholic folk storytelling of Andrew Ferguson As SIASA. Ilko Birov also returns with his free-roaming indie folk, and Groovy Uncle brings his unforgettable sun-soaked melodic pop. There is punk energy powerpop from Mint, lo-fi indie folk from St. Polaroid, and the singer-songwriter indie folk of Liseth. There is the subtle psychedelic folk of Tenzin, the honest indie rock of Joe Burns, and the experimental instrumental rock of Electric Orange.

From Wales, we have a lo-fi yuletide jig from The Vodka Tourists, and then there is the fuzzy garage pop of Wreck Rebirth. Martin Philadelphy returns with his Elekrtrofarmer side project, political jazz fusion, and Electric Talon Records bring us the dark and heavy psychedelia of Lasse Reinstroem.

The flac version of this sounds great in my truck... not a crunch, clip or boom to be heard. That, in itself, gets this major points. This is a lovely combination of early Floyd, U2 and a few San Francisco bands from the '60s with a heavy dose of Helmet tossed in. It's definitely best of breed when it comes to modern psych stuff. Even without a Hammond B3, it gets an easy A+... rick-taylor
