about

For fans of Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Grateful Dead, J. Geils Band, and The Band.

American tunesmith Dusty Wright returns to Aldora Britain Records with a fantastically crafted compilation album, the impeccable Songs, Vol. 1. In this career spanning set, listeners are given an exclusive chance to glimpse into an eclectic artistic personality. Whether it be storytelling Americana, technicolour psychedelia, crunching hard rock, or melodic folk rock, Dusty finds himself right at home. Surely that is the sign of a classic songwriter. We'll let you judge for yourself...

-----------

'Cherry Red Mustang'... "I was thinking about the old muscle cars from the 60s. Upon its release, and in my hubris, I sent the song to the CEO of Ford Motors, hoping that it might pique their interest. An artist needs to eat, right?"

'Silence Of The Knowing'... "The damage that an affair can do to a couple is real. This song reflects on the presumption that sometimes it cannot be avoided. I really dig the groove on this one. From my album Gliding Towards Oblivion."

'Ghosts'... "From my debut album and based on my paranormal experience whilst staying in London back in 1997. Maybe my favourite ballad from my catalogue."

'Sometimes I'... "This is me channeling the Talking Heads. From my If We Never... album."

'I Got Lost'... "My father had dementia at the end of his life. This song was written in response to my mother's anguish having to deal with all of his issues. Not to mention, my father losing his memory and trying to hold on to his dignity. From my album Caterwauling Towards The Light."

'Book Of Tears'... "This single was released in response to the senseless gun violence in America and everywhere in the world. Sadly, it's a daily occurrence."

'Rain, Rain'... "From my album Can Anyone Hear Me? which was very much a 'political' collection of songs. This one deals with our changing environment and making the most of things that are sometimes beyond our control."

'Baby's On Fire'... "Some may know this song by Brian Eno. As I try to do with many of the cover songs I tackle, I added cello and twelve-string to give it my own flavour. From the album GIANTfingers."

'Emma Lee'... "From the album Dust! This is me at my most psychedelic. Love the female-male vocal interplay and the guitars snaking through the track. The late great Robert Quine played the 'whale' guitar during the middle eight section and the end."

'Riptide Of Love'... "Another love song but this one about salvaging it before the ship goes down into the abyss. From my album Lonelyville."

'Secret Window'... "Written for the film of the same name. I was the music director for the film. Sadly, it did not make it to the screen, but it remains another personal favourite."

'Round & Round'... "This single was written for the David Lynch TM Music Foundation. Life and energy are an endless cycle. And thus... so is love."
