Lisa Mednick Powell becomes the latest inductee to the Aldora Britain Records family. We welcome her with the release of this compilation EP, Songs From Lisa, six songs taken from her previous studio work, a sparkling introduction to a fantastic musician and songwriter. Lisa is also part of the Arroyo Rogers duo, regulars of our projects over the last few years. It is a great privilege to be working with her more!

The set kicks off with 'Lay Of The Land', a jazz-inflicted cosmic stomper, really conveying Lisa's travelling spirit from the off. A great journey song to open this introductory EP. 'Smoke Over Carolina' follows with a hauntingly beautiful foray into the classic Americana songwriting tradition. Think of a cross between Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez and you may find yourself somewhere close. 'Alamogordo' is a big production with added menace and grit, threatening and full of intent. Hard-edged country rock at its absolute finest. 'Checkpoint' returns to Lisa's cosmic Americana territory, and 'With A Dollar In Hand' provides a high point as listeners are invited into the world of old-time country and bluegrass fiddle music. This song really swings and waltzes along, another example of the intricately beautiful songcraft at play. 'Highway Prayer' brings proceedings to a conclusion on a swampy, rootsy, bluesy note. How else could Lisa finish things of? Songs From Lisa, we want some more!

The flac version of this sounds great in my truck... not a crunch, clip or boom to be heard. That, in itself, gets this major points. This is a lovely combination of early Floyd, U2 and a few San Francisco bands from the '60s with a heavy dose of Helmet tossed in. It's definitely best of breed when it comes to modern psych stuff.
