Independent Music Sampler #161

Aldora Britain Records proudly presents River, an eclectic collection of 25 independent and underground artists from all around the globe. This release is dedicated to British-French singer and actress Jane Birkin, twenty-time Grammy winner Tony Bennett, and former Shins bassist Neal Langford. Thank you for the music.

This week, we are excited to be collaborating with Big Stir Records once again. They introduce us to the new output from the legendary Graham parker, now performing with The Goldtops, and we also feature a new tune from The Flashcubes. Mega Dodo Records also return with a fresh cut from The Jacks, Cactus Rock Records bring us the fantastic sounds of Jay Ottaway, and Umlaut Recordings introduce us to their eponymous Umlaut Big Band. Blackjack Illuminist Records are our final returning record label, contributing a pick from the Fir Cone Children.

Phil Smith is back with his shuffling folk rock, Ken Newman contributes his R&B strut, and Full Fat bring their crunching bluesy rock. We have the modern alternative rock of Jasper De Moor, the historical folk rock of The Legendary Ten Seconds, and the country music sound of The Gated Community. There is funky country rock from The River's Edge, tender alt rock from The Fisherman & The Sea, and ethereal indie rock from JunkBond. The Swell Crusade return with their college rock revival, Zankerfeld offer up their bouncing alternative rock, and Monsieur Herr bring us some avant indie pop. There is the post-punk revival of pMad, the experimental soundscapes of Cime, and the natural world folk of Tobias Werner. Unconcealed Glory is our final returning artist with an instrumental melodic cut.

The flac version of this sounds great in my truck... not a crunch, clip or boom to be heard. That, in itself, gets this major points. This is a lovely combination of early Floyd, U2 and a few San Francisco bands from the '60s with a heavy dose of Helmet tossed in. It's definitely best of breed when it comes to modern psych stuff.
