Weekly Independent Music Sampler #122

Aldora Britain Records proudly presents Renaud, an eclectic collection of 26 independent and underground songs from all around the globe. This week's title is a dedication to the brave individuals who have been on the frontline of atrocities throughout history, armed with nothing but a camera. Telling the stories of people who have been prevented from telling them themselves.

This week, we welcome a hero of mine, Andrew Ranken of The Pogues. Andrew opens up the compilation with an earthy slice of rhythm and blues from his current band, The Mysterious Wheels. In a recent chat, he said to me, "I spent 35 years playing drums for The Pogues - a slight interruption to singing the blues. But I'm back." Welcome back, Andrew! It's a pleasure.

Elsewhere, we welcome back the catchy rockabilly revival of Tommy Romero, the quirky sophisti pop of The Barbarian Horde, and the Americana storytelling perfection of Eric Harrison. The flac version of this sounds great in my truck... not a crunch, clip or boom to be heard. That, in itself, gets this major points. This is a lovely combination of early Floyd, U2 and a few San Francisco bands from the '60s with a heavy dose of Helmet tossed in. It's definitely best of breed when it comes to modern psych stuff.
