New York's The Insolent Willies arrive at Aldora Britain Records HQ this week. Armed with a selection of bootleg-style live recordings, the duo provide a tantalising snapshot of the strength and energy of their shows.
Overview:
"Live Ones is a DIY exploration of old-time bluegrass by New York's The Insolent Willies. The bootleg-style recording revitalises the storytelling of Appalachia through the songwriting of Bill Ackerbauer and Frank Dever Pullen. There is a healthy dose of blues at play too, the band providing a quintessential mash up of the best forms of Americana roots music. 'Cut 'Em Down', 'My Work Boots' and 'Poor Devil' are the highlights. However, there isn't a weak arrangement here. The six tracks compliment each other perfectly, presenting an honest and true reflection of the old-time soul and spirit of folk music in the Appalachian mountains."
"This mini-collection also captures the group's live performances before, during and after global lockdowns. Four shows are featured - January 2019, July 2019, October 2020 and February 2021. A brilliantly compiled historic sonic artefact!"
For fans of Old Crow Medicine Show, Pokey LaFarge and C.W. Stoneking.
