A Letter To Duane

by Various Artists

I am hugely proud to present this tribute to our late friend, Duane Mark. Duane was a much-loved and respected member of our musical community. He had a reputation for being kind, caring, endlessly funny, a brilliant musician and songwriter, and a fine man. He was a friend to many of us and, despite being separated by great distances and oceans, he would always go the extra mile for Aldora Britain Records. He was that kind of man.

When news reached us of his death, there was only one thing to do. Pay tribute to the man through his incredible music and storytelling. Seven of his labelmates with home studios stepped forward and produced touching and thoughtful reworkings of their favourite song of Duane's. We truly hope that when Duane hears these, at that gig in the sky, he looks down with that big Texan smile.

Before signing off, I would like to share an excerpt from an interview that I did with Duane just over a year ago. We discussed my favourite song of his, 'Brittle Flower', and the words he said, I believe, represent the man he was...

“This is the song that strikes my heart the hardest … I am a firm believer in chasing your dreams … I want my children to have this same passion for chasing what they believe in. I wrote this song after my youngest daughter went through a rough time in school … I just wanted to make a simple tune to remind us that we are all in this together.”

Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to his family, friends and fans. This is our letter to Duane. Rest in peace, we miss you.
