about

Weekly Independent Music Taster #59

Independent, underground, authentic. A collection of 22 songs from all around the globe, tomorrow's music today. A variety of styles and tastes represented, something for everyone. Have a listen and enjoy some great underappreciated music.

It is with pleasure that we welcome back our old Michigan friends, The Stick Arounds, who are also the namesake of this collection. They bring back their classic jangly American powerpop sound. We also welcome Matt Owens to open the album with his track, 'Hungover In New York'. Matt was formerly the bassist for Noah and The Whale and his track features contributions from members or past members of R.E.M., Alabama 3, The Magic Numbers and Black Grape, an impressive cast for an impressive track! Rock Hand Records also contribute two artists from their brilliant roster. There is the spaghetti surf of Slut Magic and the expansive post-punk of Babel Map, a perfect representation of the label's output.

This compilation gets even more eclectic from here... garage rock revival from The Naked Lunch, punk rock aggression from Pink Flamingos, and rootsy southern rock from the Tick Bryan Band. There is the country rock of The Wonderful Nobodies, the earthy blues rock of Barry White Gone Wrong, and a classic traditional cut from Chris Moore.

The traditional theme continues with Brown Boots, Kevin Meehan and Karen Marshalsay. There is an interesting noir piece of 'gothicana' from The Agency..., Japanese indie noise rock from Hoo!, and garage punk from Sick Boys Revue and The Dolly Shakes. There is psychedelia from Mother Sun and then a collection of pop punk from Dislocation, Everyday Sensei, Sempervivi and Double U D40.

Please download, listen loud, dig deeper with your discoveries, and support Aldora Britain Records and independent music. Enjoy!
