about

Weekly Independent Music Taster #77

This week Aldora Britain Records brings you The Universal Thing, a collection of 23 cosmically selected picks from the independent underground. All grassroots, all authentic, all different. The title is taken from the lead track by Of Shadows and Lights, Angelo Pitone's Italian synthwave project. He has recently released his debut studio album, Almost Prophetic Visions and Thoughts.

We welcome back Luke Hendrickson (outlaw country), Erin O'Neill (soulful Americana), Sharp Class (mod-based punk), Mythical Motors (jangly powerpop), Edie O'Hara (American folk rock) and Andrew Ferguson as SIASA (Scottish southern noir). Big Stir Records bring us a pick from the fantastic Brothers Steve. Chris Mitchard (of Leathers) also returns with his fantastic dance-orientated side project Charlton Lane. As always, please download, listen loud, dig deeper with your discoveries, and support Aldora Britain Records and independent music.

The remainder of The Universal Thing is comprised of brand new faces to Aldora Britain Records. There is the melodic powerpop of Bruce Moody, the jug-band Americana of LP Kelly and the folky post-punk of Dan O'Farrell & The Difference Engine. We have Malaysian skate punk from Tadpoles, alternative cabaret from Meaghan Burke & The Rhythm Method and old-time Americana from The Martin Gilmore Trio.

Steve Hall brings us country-based folk rock with The Questionnaires, Naked Luck deliver some beautiful harmonies in their psychedelic-tinged take on folk rock, and Free Games For May give us dreamy psychedelic shoegaze. To finish off, we have Rozeen (pop-based neo-soul), AliT (acoustic alternative grunge), Maestro Collage (experimental art rock), Choose Your Own Adventure (jazz pop) and Asphalt Astronaut (noir alt folk).

Thanks for listening in and supporting independent music. Play loud and enjoy!
