about

It is with great pleasure that Aldora Britain Records welcomes back the brilliant Stan Matthews. 'Rory Gene' is the second in a trilogy of singles, all displaying a true and honest Massachusetts outlaw country sound. The song centres around Matthews' breathtaking storytelling and his direct vocal, backed up by the soulful guitar input of Bob Sarkala.

'Rory Gene' is based on the true story of Rory Gene Kessinger. Kessinger was a drug dealer, bank robber and gun runner who escaped from Plymouth County Correctional Facility on May 27, 1973 at the age of 24. The escape was instigated when someone smuggled a hacksaw to her, she has never seen again.

Kessinger ran away from home at the age of 15 to pursue a career in crime. In high school, she was said to be sophisticated and worldly with 'James Bond girl' looks. After a number of arrests, she was incarcerated for good after pulling a gun on a police officer. The police officer had discovered her running through the woods in lingerie, insisting she had been raped. She would go on to pull a gun on a caseworker and a second police officer in hospital.

The case of Rory Gene has fascinated and intrigued many. Was she simply an adrenaline junkie, or did she have an underlying mental health condition? The questions remain unanswered, but the story still captivates the imagination of many who seek to understand how this high school sweetheart turned sour...
