about

Casey Noel debuts on Aldora Britain Records with her swampy blues rocker 'Playing God'. The track sees Casey deliver something a little different from her classic songwriting-based country folk.

Lyrically, the song has an intriguing back story too. The track is inspired by a story that Casey heard on a true crime podcast. This story follows the plight of Giulia Tofana, a 17th century serial poisoner. Her first victim was her husband, following an abusive marriage in a time when divorce wasn't an option. She later turned this into a business, selling poison in make-up bottles to women in similar positions. The grisly business lasted for twenty years before she was caught and executed. Playing god indeed...

Casey Noel: "I knew when I wrote it that it could have more of a rock and roll feel, and I wanted to go after that. The guys who played on it are more rockers, so it really just fell into place … I don't like to box myself in any one specific style."

For fans of Simon And Garfunkel, Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Prine, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris.
