about

Indiana troubadour Joel David Weir returns to Aldora Britain Records with an abridged version of his latest long playing record, the spectacular Gethsemani.

As is the case with each Joel David Weir release, Gethsemani bears witness to immense artistic evolution and growth. This singer-songwriter is one who does not sit still, always searching for more innovative and creative ways to convey his truth. Whether it be a noir shuffle ('Shattered'), a brooding or honest reflection ('The Defense' and 'Emerald'), or a country folk campfire song ('Says Loretta'), Joel shines through with humility and honesty. The title track is a brilliantly meandering journey into the realms of lo-fi, 'Tower Of Hurt' is a real highlight with all the romanticism of an age-old traditional arrangement, and 'Don't Forget' is an Americana folk fingerpicker. The 'abridged' version of Gethsemani concludes with a reflective reimagination of 'Loch Lomond', and a live take of fan favourite 'I Am A Boy', recorded live in Edinburgh.

For fans of Neil Young, John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Brian Wilson, and Townes Van Zandt.

Joel David Weir: 'I am firm believer in letting the song dictate the style. The song is the most important thing."
